This workshop is open to parents, carers and professionals

A workshop for staff and parents to help create a communication friendly environment for children. The workshop will teach you how to bring communication and interaction skills into different settings. This can be at home or in a education environment. 

This workshop is based on the 'Communication At The Heart of the School/Setting' (CATHS) approach.

Aim of this workshop

  • Understand implementing a whole school approach to support communication needs
  • Learn about speech, language and communication techniques and strategies to use day-to-day

Entry criteria

The workshop will benefit parents or professionals who work with children who:

  • are between 3 to 12 years old
  • can follow instructions using key words or objects of references
  • is starting to be more specific with their communication
  • using a combination of communication methods like reaching, gesturing, vocalising, leading adults and using single words or signs
  • relies on adults interpreting most of their communications

Workshop dates

The booking window will close 2 working days before the date of the training.

Please note, if you do not attend the workshop, you may be charged a penalty fee.

Early language users workshop terms and conditions

This workshop is free at the point of delivery. 

If you are unable to attend the workshop, please notify us as soon as possible. Notify us at ccs.beds.childrens.slt.training@nhs.net 

Repeated non-attendance will result in restricted access to future workshops. 

Bookings for all workshops will close 2 working days before the date of the training. It is at the training administrator’s discretion if late bookings are processed.

If you need to swap the person attending the workshop, please email ccs.beds.childrens.slt.training@nhs.net with the name and email address of their replacement as soon as possible. We can then send the relevant information and resources to the new attendee.

The training will be delivered over Microsoft Teams. Please ensure you have access to a device with a camera and microphone as you will require these to participate in the workshop. You will receive a Microsoft Teams link and any necessary resources via email at least 2 working days before the workshop.

The Microsoft Teams link is intended for use only by the person it is sent to. Do not share this link with anyone else. Participants who are not on the attendance list will be removed.

In the unlikely event that a workshop is cancelled, we will endeavour to give as much notice as possible and you will be offered a place on an alternative date.
